The God Box Lecture

David Banner Made a memorable visit to the Lowcountry on July 16th 2016 his “God Box” lecture which was held at 1422 Morrison Dr The International Longshoreman’s Association auditorium hall. According to local newspaper “The Chronicle” The event was described as “Packed from wall to wall attendance and some were still in line buying tickets after Mr. Banner’s lecture began.” It is said that there were and upwards of 800 melenated people in attendance with at least 100 turned away at the door. To say that the God Box lecture at the ILA was a success is to undervalue the impact of his appearance and the African American community’s role in supporting its own.

Mr. Banner unabashedly spoke on many topics and relevant issues of concern to the audience in his not quite 2 hour delivery to the local and national black communities that had the audience glued to his every word. He left no stone unturned in his indictment of the problems that black folk face in dealing with the system, from religion to hair styles to skin color to, well, you name it. Often times, mixing his truthfulness with shreds of humor, David Banner made it plain and simple that he wanted the audience to recognize that the state of their collective and individual immediacies.

The very receptive audience, made up of young and older black adults, many resplendent in Afrocentric and contrasting present day wear, was all apparently not turned off by his direct remarks. They loved it. This is what they came for.

The tone was set by the Emcee Veronica Pearson, a successful businesswoman whos involved in multiple ventures one of which being media, spoke on the importance of regaining the control of your life and positive input into the community. Mr James Johnson, a public speaker who built his platform based on his prison experience, followed up Ms. Pearson. Mr. Johnson made a plea for the local community to understand the importance of helping those who were incarcerated to make a smoother transition back into society..

Mr Banner spoke to a packed house. He addressed the need for blacks to once again embrace the concept of speaking to one another and put various issues to the side. At the conclusion of his powerful speech, Mr Banner said that he offered five tings that the black community needs and must do in order to advance its own causes. They are 1. Gain Knowledge of self 2. Learn to educate 3. Produce our own 4.Distribute our own 5. Buy our own

The God Box lecture was more of a family happening than a speech gathering because not only did the local community come out, but people also came from the surrounding states, to support this historic event sponsored by local grassroots organization The Communiversity. Mr Banner saluted them for their efforts in his presentation and advised the audience to recognize the work they were doing in bringing about a unified Black semblance for all to envision. The evening ended with the audience being advised and reminded to leave with the same peace and integrity they came with. That was accomplished, and in an obvious sign of solidarity the enthusiastic, positively charged group departed with a feeling of “thankfulness for having been able to be here” according to a one person leaving. It was a rousing success.
